beard hurts when sleeping

My beard used to hurt like crazy. It feels like the beard is chafing my skin. It gives some itchy feeling too. Do you know why it hurts?

Mostly, beard hurts when sleeping is because of ingrown hair. Additionally, if you have some skin related problems like rashes, it also hurts.

So, without further ado, let’s discuss it in detail about it!

Why does Beard hurt?

does sleeping on one side affect beard growth

1. Ingrown hair

Ingrown hair hurts like crazy. I have had ingrown hair, and I even don’t want to imagine the pain of it.

I have a curly beard and need to suffer from it the most. Because curly hair instead of growing towards the surface goes sideways. As a result, it grows beneath my skin, resulting in it causing an ingrown hair.

It is also possible to occur when your pores are clogged up. Due to it, hair grows at different angles.

The best possible way to overcome ingrown hair is to avoid shaving.

But it is not always possible, right!

Over here are some methods with the help of which you can avoid ingrown hair!

  • Exfoliate Your Skin

I have already told you that clogged up pores are one of the reasons behind ingrown hair. Meanwhile, to overcome it, you need to exfoliate your skin. Doing so removes excessive build-ups of oils and dirt from pores, henceforth preventing you from clogging up your pores and ingrown hair.

  • Shave your hair in the direction of its growth

If you really want to avoid ingrown hair, you also need to improve your shaving techniques. There are two techniques for shaving your beard.

  • Shaving against the grain
  • Shaving in the direction of its growth

I will suggest you shave your beard in the direction of its growth.

While saying this, I’m not saying you can’t shave your beard against the grain. You can! It provides you with a close shaving experience.

Meanwhile, it has many downsides too.

There is a high possibility of having nicks, cuts, razor burn, and above all, ingrown hair.

  • Always shave your beard with sharp blades.

There is a high possibility of having ingrown hair while shaving with unsharpened blades. While shaving with these blades, it will toughen the ends of hair. As a result, when it grows, it will pierce the skin allowing it to cause ingrown hair.

Thus, I suggest you always shave your beard with sharp blades.

  • Use Shaving powder

If you don’t have hypersensitive skin, you can use shaving powder as well to remove facial hair.  It will neither irritate your skin nor causes any nicks and cuts. Moreover, there is less possibility of having ingrown hair.

2. Skin Rashes

Skin rashes under your beard also hurt you while sleeping.

There are many reasons for skin rashes.

  •  You won’t cleanse your skin so often.

If you often don’t cleanse your skin, it will accumulate build-ups of oil and dirt. As a result, it will clog up the pores resulting it causing acne.

Therefore, you must cleanse your beard twice a day. If it is possible, you need to use a beard wash. Otherwise, washing with water is also worth it.

But you can’t use normal shampoo and soap because it can irritate your skin.

  • You won’t damp it

After washing, you won’t damp your skin. If your skin is wet for a long time, you will suffer from skin problems like Dermatitis.

Thus, you must damp your skin after washing. For so, you can use a dry towel, or you can also use an air blow dryer. If you are using an air blow dryer, you need to use it in low heat settings. It prevents your beard from being damaged.

  • You won’t use beard oil.

If you don’t use beard oil, your skin will be dry, and there is a high possibility of having beard dandruff. As a result of it, it can cause itchiness and irritation.

If you are suffering from beard dandruff, you can use these beard oils – it will help you to remove dandruff.

Conclusion

Beard hurts the most when you have ingrown hair. If you follow proper shaving techniques, use sharpened blades, and cleanse your beard daily, there is less possibility of having ingrown hair.

Furthermore, to prevent rashes, you need to damp your skin. And above all, the most important thing is to keep your beard hydrated to prevent all the problems related to it.
